Updates! The good, the bad, and the ugly

It’s time for some updates!

The Good

I swept the entire kitchen floor yesterday and look at the sweep pile. I couldn’t get over how small it was.

Almost a year ago I wrote about how I sweep my really messy, cluttered floor. The sweep pile in that post is ginormous.

And check out the living room floor:

Sure there’s clutter in the living room and stains on the carpet, but look at the middle of the room! Cleared space! I even vacuumed. And I liked it.

The Bad

What?? What happened here? Where did this come from, anyway?

Whatever happened, it’s got to go.

The Ugly

Maybe you shouldn’t look.

It’s the desk.

It’s not well.

And this next one.

Oh dear.

I know what you are saying. I’m saying it to myself, too.

“Oh NO you don’t! Don’t go there again!”

I’m taking care of this one TODAY people. Today.

Now to leave you with happy thoughts, I’ll show one more good picture:

How are your cluttery spots doing?

P.S. I feel like I have so much to tell you about. A kitchen island clutter experiment that I did, my new cleaning schedule, chores for the kids, a clutter hot spot that I removed completely, and more! Stay tuned. And if you haven’t joined me on Facebook yet, I hope you will. I would love to see you there!

WTG! Excellent progress. BTW, my desk isn’t much better!

  2. Amazing! So great to see signs of maintained progress.

Why on earth is paper clutter SO HARD!?! It is a constant battle in our house.

I remember the comments from this post to be very insightful on paper clutter. I think I should go read them again myself.

I thought I asked you to stop taking pictures of my dirty kitchen floor! Lol!! We have that exact shoe, and I am joining you in the pile becoming smaller! You are rocking it! I saw clean dishes on the counter, now I need to join you in that endeavor! I can’t wait to hear about your cleaning schedule!! I am struggling there. And on a bright note, all that stuff on your bedroom floor is just laundry! Won’t take you but 15 min. or so! You are doing awesome!!

Were you tempted to leave the sweep pile there, so you could admire it?

Excellent kitchen pix. Was that just how it was or was that an “after” pix? Either way, nice job.

Yes, I was. That why I had to take a picture of it and put it on this here blog. šŸ˜‰

That was pretty much how the kitchen island was. I think I just moved the things that were there to the center, because I’ve found that seems to make things look better.

I read on some cleaning/organizing blog that if one (ME!!!) is unmotivated to declutter a certain area, to put every last thing from that space into a box. Clean/wipe down the previously cluttered area. Stand back and admire your sparkling area. Working on this motivation, set your timer (if that works for you); grab some containers; sort items; put those items in a “home” (trash, recycle, certain rooms, etc).

I used this strategy yesterday after MONTHS of feeling bummed about my computer nook area in the my kitchen. It’s only a 2′ by 4′ space and I allowed all of that clutter to weigh on me. Fifteen minutes later, I felt so accomplished!

Keep up your positive thoughts and you can do it!!!

Thanks for sharing! That sounds great, but I know I would have to be committed to finishing the job because it would be sooo tempting to just stash that box in the basement and forget about it. I can’t believe you finished that job in 15 minutes!! That’s awesome!

  7. I had a relatively better looking desk for about two weeks thinking that I had finally managed to at least keep it from getting messier. Here I am, piles of paper is growing again on my desk.

Wanna work on our desk together?
