Hi There, Kitchen Counters!

Tsh from Simple Mom was doing her Project Simplify in the kitchen last week, and I decided to join in. My kitchen counters were drowning in clutter and I needed to save them. And that is just what I did. I bet you would enjoy some before and after pictures. Here you go!

Here are some of the things I had to deal with from the end counter there.

I had 4 mugs sitting on that counter holding pens, tools, and other miscellaneous stuff! I took it from 4 mugs to 1, although the paper towels are hiding the 1 mug in this after photo.

And let me tell you, I was serious about getting those counters clean. I took everything off the counters, including the microwave. This is the grossness that was behind and under the microwave and coffee stuff:

And here it is now:

Here’s another before of a little counter next to the refrigerator:

Here are a couple more after pictures to enjoy:

I got a “Wow!” from Mr. RSS and it feels great to be in my kitchen right now.

    wow is right. beautiful.

  5. I think I’m noticing a shift in direction in your journey.

When you started out it was mostly about clutter. Now I see you are also getting down into the cleaning. And not just the big kitchen sweep style cleaning but the get in behind things and clean ’em! I think as the clutter goes more and more away you will ‘see’ those behind spots more readily and want to clean them regularly.

The kitchen does look amazing. It’s nice that your house has good bones so that when you clean it up it looks so great!

I think you are right. It’s kind of annoying actually. I couldn’t believe how dirty the vent hood and back of the stove were. I JUST cleaned those when I did the spice cabinets!

    Wow indeed.

Now I want to do something. I want you to compare this before pix to a before pix from a year ago *and* to an after pix from a year ago.

See? Progress. (Might make a good post, too.)

I did your little assignment. And I see it. Thanks! I think my standards are changing as I “see” the clutter more now. Plus just that slow momentum of more things leaving the house than coming in. It also caused me to skim the first half of my blog post by post. That was fun. I’ve been meaning to go back and read the whole thing, actually.

The before pix didn’t show the counter to the right of fridge, the one you did a bang-up job on when you organized spices. How’d it look before? Inquiring minds want to know.

I do have a before picture of that counter, but it just didn’t make it into the post. It had a big pitcher of water on it and a candle. Not bad!

  8. Ohhhh, that looks fantastic, Elizabeth!!! WOOHOO!

  9. Tina

Great job! It look fabulous! I love your fruit bowl and soap dispenser with the blue flowers on it. My kitchen soap dispenser just broke. You wouldn’t happen to remember where you might have gotten that do you?

    • Elizabeth

Hi Tina, thanks! The soap dispenser is Pfaltzgraff from 2001. I did a little searching online and couldn’t find it. Have fun soap dispenser shopping, though! 🙂

  10. Really good job there – WooHoo!!!

  11. What a job well done! Kitchen counters can be relentless, can’t they? But it feels so pleasant to be in the kitchen when they are clear and clean.

I agree with William, you certainly have made a lot of progress since you started this blog. Keep it up and enjoy your clutterless, clean counters. (Wow, I’m glad I only had to type that last sentence and not say it :))

  12. You´ll get a WOW from me to. Well done! It must´ve felt really nice to walk in to that kitchen in the morning 🙂
